The Miele Difference

In 1899, Carl Miele and Reinhard Zinkann began the Miele company in a small wooden barn in the community of Herzebrock, Germany with eleven employees and a promise, "Immer Besser." This philosophy, meaning "Forever Better," has guided Miele through more than 100 years of family-ownership and continues to represent both a duty and challenge for its 15,000 employees today. Since adding vacuum cleaners to its household appliance range in 1927, Miele has been considered a leader in the international floor care industry, pressing the technology envelope ever since its first vacuum cleaner, the "Melior."

Notably, the Melior canister vacuum insulated live electrical components with a molded material, bakelite (named after its Belgian inventor, Baekeland), which was the first plastic to be used in the household arena. Miele's use of bakelite positioned the company as a pioneer in the use of plastics in domestic appliances, providing the best possible protection against electrical shock with unparalleled noise reduction.

Today, Miele continues its legacy, manufacturing vacuum cleaners that deliver powerful performance, advanced filtration systems, convenient features and enduring quality within a brilliantly designed framework.
